I is for Include
What is this web site about?
This web site is about increasing the awareness and inclusiveness of Intersex in society and in GLBTI (gay, lesbian, Bi, Trans and Intersex) groups. In late 2010 I started to notice a large trend to remove the I from the GLBTI and LGBTI acronyms. It seemed that I was for ignore rather than Intersex I don't now who started the trend, but sadly it has really been spreading. Even Wikipedia started to use LGBT rather than LGBTI. So, this site is about Including Intersex people rather than Ignoring them.
Why I created this web site?
I am an 40 year old Intersex person living in Canberra, the capital of Australia. Over the years I have become somewhat annoyed to see Intersex people marginalised and even actively ignored by society, including Gay, Lesbian, Bi and Transgendered people. I have also noticed that many people's opinions about Intersex people come from a relatively few sources, such as the ISNA website or OII. There are many times I have had to tell people that those web sites do not necessarily represent me, or my opinions. Like the population at large, Intersex as a gender is made up of different people with different opinions. I have many of my own opinions about Intersex, some of which may be unique to me. So, this web site is for me to express my experiences, knowledge and opinions about being Intersex, and to point out the many organisations in society that actively oppress Intersex people.
